One of the twelve Apostles, we know from the Gospels that Saint Philip was present at the miracle of the loaves and fishes, and was the apostle approached by the Hellentistic Jews to be presented to Jesus. The Book of Acts lists him as being present in the Upper Room during the descent of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost. He preached in Syria and Greece, and was crucified at the order of the proconsul of Hierapolis because his miracles and preaching had converted the latter's wife.
