Description
Based on Russian iconographer Andrei Rublev's famous icon of the Trinity, in Brother Simeon's rendition the unity of the Godhead is shown by depicting the three Persons identically, one in essence, power, and glory. The central angel represents Christ, as is noted in many versions of this icon where the words "Jesus Christ" appear above this figure. The red and gold stole draped over this figure's right shoulder is modelled after that worn by the sons of the Byzantine emperors to indicate they were royal heirs; here it indicates Christ's divine sonship, and appears in most Byzantine iconographic portraits of Christ. (This same red and gold stole appears in classic icons of the Apostles, to indicate their status as sons of Christ the King.) Like so many of our icons of Christ and Biblical icons, this Holy Trinity icon comes in both plaque and print sizes, from 4" to 60" tall.
