Founder of the Order of Preachers (Dominicans), Saint Dominic was born to noble Spanish family in the twelfth century. As a young man, he joined the Benedictine order in Osma, and later became known as powerful preacher when debating the heretics during his travels with his bishop. His efforts eventually drew to him many other monks and led to the creation of the Dominican Order. He is probably best known as the saint who received the Rosary from the Virgin Mary while at prayer in 1214.
